We Fight For Your Access To Public Lands!

Arizona Backcountry Explorers is a local media company dedicated to engaging the public in policy proposals that close or restrict access to public lands in Arizona.

Local

The Apache Trail

Arizona’s most iconic and scenic road is closed, and we need your help reopening this national treasure.

Three years ago, the Woodbury Wildfire caused significant damage to the surrounding National Forest. Shortly after, a large tropical storm ripped through the area, causing a rockfall on Fish Creek Hill. Since that time, ADOT has indefinitely closed a 7-mile section between Fish Creek Hill and Apache Lake Marina.

Sedona

Sedona City Officials are pressuring the Coconino National Forest to prohibit dispersed camping and initiate a permit system on popular forest roads around Sedona.

Anti-access groups claim that off-highway vehicles (OHVs) are destroying the natural landscape and hieroglyphs by kicking up large dust clouds. In addition to motorized restrictions, the city is attempting to regulate OHV businesses, such as adult sex shops.

Federal

Federal Land Management agencies close motorized access under the guise of Travel Management Planning. This process is applied to carry out various congressional mandates under multiple federal laws.

Forest Service

The USDA Forest Service is closing thousands of miles of roads on public lands in Arizona.
